Our Keg Leg Bouldering Pant has really started to gain traction in the market. It's exciting to see this happen, but Problem Child Climbing was never actually intended to be a full-stack climbing streetwear brand! As a couple of passionate designers, we originally set out to create this product purely for fun and the to improve our own climbing experiences... After giving the pants away to a few friends, though, we started to quickly realise we had more to give.
Keg Leg didn’t start as a product idea — it started as a frustration. Every climber knows the feeling: pants that bind on high steps, fabrics that tear the moment they meet real rock, silhouettes that look great on the walk‑in but fall apart the second you drop into a heel‑hook. We were tired of choosing between movement and style, durability and comfort, premium quality and a price that didn’t make sense for everyday climbers. So we set out to build the pant we always wished existed.
That decision kicked off nine months of absolute obsession.
Keg Leg began as a sketch on a whiteboard, then a pattern, then a prototype that barely survived its first session. From there, it became a cycle of design, destruction, and redesign. We tested every seam, every panel, every angle of articulation. We argued about pocket placement. We debated the exact width of the leg opening. We sourced fabrics that could take a beating without feeling like cardboard. And we kept going until the pant felt like something you could live in — not just climb in.
But the real proving ground wasn’t the studio. It was the wall.
Keg Leg has been climbed in more gyms than we can count — humid bouldering caves, freezing lead barns, chalk‑fogged training dens where holds are polished to glass. We handed prototypes to crushers, beginners, route setters, and anyone willing to try to break them. They high‑stepped, drop‑kneed, mantled, compression‑squeezed, and scorpioned their way through sessions that would shred lesser gear. Every tear, every scuff, every “hey, this bit feels weird” became a note for the next version.
Then we took them outside.
Keg Leg has touched granite in California, sandstone in the Grampians, limestone in Europe, and volcanic rock in Japan. It’s been dragged across slabs, jammed into cracks, scraped through chimneys, and sat on countless crash pads from Australia to the UK. We wanted to know how the pants handled heat, cold, humidity, sharp rock, long approaches, and the kind of real‑world abuse that no lab test can replicate. The answer? They kept coming back ready for more.
All of that testing shaped the final pant: a wide‑leg, movement‑first silhouette inspired by Japanese streetwear; a soft but tough cotton build that breathes on long sessions; reinforced construction where it matters; and the unmistakable Problem Child attitude baked into every detail. Fully custom, built from scratch, and refined by climbers who don’t hold back.
And through all of it, we fought to keep the price sensible. Ultra‑premium quality shouldn’t be reserved for elite athletes or people with bottomless wallets. Keg Leg is for the climbers who show up, try hard, and want gear that actually keeps up.
Nine months, countless prototypes, and a whole lot of rock later, Keg Leg is finally here — and we couldn’t be prouder of what it’s become.
